Star Square

History

There used to be an ordinary sundial, which was a large sloping tube in the center of the dial. But the leadership of the city wanted to diversify this place, to make it unique - a hallmark of Mogilev. Someone came up with an idea to ask Minsk architect Vladimir Zhbanov to this case (unfortunately, he has already passed away). Vladimir Zhbanov is the author of amazingly kind and cute sculptures, which you can see on streets of Belarusian cities. Among his most famous works are The Lady with the Dog, The Crew, The Photographer, The Station Ranger and many others.

The object today

Star Square is the pride of the city. The sculptor approached the matter creatively, and an amazing ensemble was born: a stargazer, who looks through a large telescope. The seven-meter stargazer is sitting on a high chair and is looking through a four-meter telescope. The sculpture is very tall, it is said to be visible even from space when the illumination is turned on at night. The telescope is a gnomon - a sundial pointer hand. Around the Stargazer are twelve chairs - one for each sign of the zodiac.
