About the Church

The fate of the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Opsa has been complex. The previous building was destroyed by fire in 1886, but soon a new red brick church in the neo-Gothic style appeared in its place, which enjoyed significant popularity at the end of the 19th century. This remarkable church also found support from Count Felix Plater.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Opsa survived a fire in 1928, which damaged the bell tower and roof. During the Soviet period, it was closed and used as a warehouse for a long time. The church was returned to believers only in the 1990s, after which services resumed.
