About the Church

With its exterior, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker resembles the wooden Protection Church, built in 1858-1860 in the folk wooden style with elements of classicism, funded by Xaverius Puslowski, one of the wealthiest local landowners.

From 1998 to 2003, a new Orthodox church was erected in the center of Syanno in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. This church replaced two lost churches: the wooden Protection Church and the stone Saint Nicholas Church, which were destroyed during the Soviet period. Previously, Syanno was famous for its Syanno Cathedral, built in the Russo-Byzantine style by architect Konstantin Thon, but it was destroyed in 1934.

Today, the new Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is one of the centers of spiritual life in the city, located along the road leading to Vitebsk.
