History of Independence Day

Initially, July 27 was the date of Independence Day, as the Declaration “On the State Sovereignty of the BSSR” was adopted on that day in 1990. However, in 1996, during a referendum, it was proposed to move the holiday to July 3, where the majority supported the idea. In the post-Soviet space, the Republic of Belarus is the only country where the date is not associated with the separation from the Soviet Union.

Independence Day

Independence Day is a non-working day in our country. Almost every time there is a parade on this day (except 1999 and 2021). The holiday in 2014 was special because it was the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the occupation.
