History

Built in 1908 in Pseudo-Russian style, Ascension Church survived the difficult times of Soviet atheism (the church was closed in 1929), when its building was used as a warehouse, cafe, and even as a climbing gym. During the Great Patriotic War (the eastern Front), the church survived, but the restoration of its religious function was delayed.

After a long period of neglect, in 1992, the church was returned to the faithful, and after restoration, it once again became a place of worship, reviving its role in the city's life.

About the Church

Although the architectural composition of the church is based on Orthodox churches of the mass construction period, the building is richly decorated with elements of Pseudo-Russian style. Red brick is adorned with white details, including columns, moldings, and friezes, giving the building an exquisite appearance. Arches and windows, complemented by unusual details such as a round window above the portal, resembling a girl's face with a traditional Russian headdress, are particularly prominent. The bell tower is decorated with various architectural elements, including an onion dome and a cross. The interior of the church is modest, with a four-tier iconostasis.
