About the museum

The Braslau District Association of Museums was established in 1996 and consists of the expositions of the Museum of History and Local Lore and the Museum of Traditional Culture.

The Historical and Local History Museum was organized in 1984, the exposition was opened in 1988. The museum has six exposition halls. There is a rich and varied archeological section, which presents research materials of monuments from the Neolithic, Iron Age, Polack Principality and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Many exhibits are rare or unique.

The late medieval period is reflected in the complexes, among which the most interesting are the stands devoted to castle fortifications, the history of the town of Druja (Sapezhyn), and the noble families of Braslau region.

Particularly interesting exhibits are the fragments of the exposition, which show the pages of the 1794 and 1863 uprisings, the war of 1812, the First World War, the economy and culture of Braslau region of the beginning of the twentieth century.

A separate exposition is dedicated to the talented Braslau doctor Stanislav Narbut (1853-1926), who worked in Braslau region for more than 40 years. Also separate materials are devoted to the famous fellow countryman of Braslau region, painter Petr Sergeevich (1900-1984).

One of the halls of the museum presents the events of the Great Patriotic War.

The ethnographic section shows the interior of a peasant hut of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are showcases with household and antique items.

The exposition of the museum contains exhibits that show the traditions of blacksmithing, weaving, weaving, wood carving, musical culture of Braslau region.

The Museum of Traditional Culture was established on the basis of the House of Crafts, which had been operating since 1995. The exposition was opened in 1997. It is located on the shore of Lake Drivyaty in the building of the former mill - an architectural monument of the early twentieth century, which is adjoined by additional annexes, creating a representative complex, which houses the hotel "Zaezny Dvor".

The two halls of the museum contain exhibits from thematic collections depicting the traditions of folk culture of the region. The interior is divided into three levels. The complex dedicated to weaving contains ancient weaving devices discovered during archaeological excavations, as well as products of famous weaving masters: P. Korenyk, I. Kravchenok, I. Dvoretsky, K. Lukyants, M. Cherkas. The exposition "Carving of Braslav region" is represented by the products of such masters as P. Zeliavsky, K. Lapkovsky, I. Shpakovich. In the weaving workshop next to the crones and devices related to the processing of flax and wool you can see various products of weavers of Braslau region. The museum also houses two exhibition halls where exhibitions of folk crafts, works of artists and arts and crafts are organized. A separate room houses a pottery workshop.
