In April 1990 the Department of Culture of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus decided to found a District Museum of Local History in Chaussy. May 7, 1996 the museum recepted its first visitors. The museum's mission is "Our museum collects, preserves and promotes the exhibits and documents related to the Chaussy district history." The District Museum is situated in a historical building of District Treasury (1902) in the center of the town. The museum exhibition is exposed in nine halls. It represents the nature and history of the native land, the information about the soldiers who liberated the territory from the German Nazi invaders during the World War II, and about our famous people: the military intelligence officer, the Hero of the Soviet Union Colonel L.E Manevich; the first woman in Russia who was awarded with the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences V.A.Kashavaravа-Rudneva; the Belarussian ethnographer and folklorist I.I. Nosovich etc. The exhibition is accompanied by sound-tracks in five halls of the museum. During the 2021 year 4529 visitors came to the museum. Today the museum collections include 12 777 items of historical and cultural heritage of the Chaussy district. The most notable collections are "Archeology", "Ethnography", "Documents", "Weapon". And the following unique showpieces: • items of military life (binoculars, helmets, a periscope, a German army flask and dinnerware, etc.); • service medals, such commemoratives as badges and insignia produced in Western Europe in the first half of the 20th century; • personal things of the biathlonist and the Silver Medalist of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 Sergei Novikov who was born in Chaussy; • objects of ethnography (towels, skirts, tablecloths, etc.); • a camera autographed by Konstantin Simonov. Exhibitions of collections of our museum and the Regional Museum of Local Lore, as well as the exhibitions of the native artists and the craftsmen of the district and region are organized regularly in the museum exhibition halls. Preschool children, school students, retirees, factory and office workers, guests from the near and far abroad visit the museum.
