The monastery, established in 1631, has undergone several periods of construction and destruction. Over time, it housed several churches and monastic structures. In 1691, a brick church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected on its grounds, which stood for over two centuries.
During the period from 1920 to 1940, the convent was closed and used as a warehouse. During the Great Patriotic War (the Eastern front), it was opened by German forces and has remained open since.
Monastic life resumed in 1996 in the building of the Saint Elijah Church, constructed in 1880.
In 2001, the Vitebsk Diocese received as a gift the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Quick to Hearken," which is housed in the Saint Elijah Church of the monastery. In 2006, the Convent was opened and consecrated on the monastery grounds. The nunnery serves as an important historical and spiritual center, preserving relics and sacred objects such as the icon of the "The Saviour Not Made by Hands" and the Cross-Relic.
