The church has long been the main attraction of the city. Historical sources indicate that a church for Franciscans was built in 1609. Initially, it was made of wood. Over time, there arose a need for a new sanctuary, and in 1766-1772, Tadeusz and Jadwiga Ogińsky erected a stone church. In the early next century, a monastery was built nearby — its building has been preserved.
During the Great Patriotic War (the Eastern Front of World War II), the church suffered partial damage, and in 1962, it was blown up. On September 17, 2022, a new Holy Trinity Church was opened on the site of the old church, which is a ninefold reduced copy of the original.
