This is one of the earliest temples of ancient Russia, and the oldest in Belarus. For the construction, craftsmen from Byzantium were invited.
Unfortunately, the original building of the cathedral, erected in the middle of the eleventh century, was destroyed during the Northern War, and then the cathedral was rebuilt in the eighteenth century. St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk has become a cultural and religious center.

An organ has been installed, which today is unconditionally recognized as the best concert instrument in Belarus.
