This is one of the earliest temples of ancient Russia, and the oldest in Belarus. For the construction, craftsmen from Byzantium were invited.
Unfortunately, the original building of the cathedral, erected in the middle of the eleventh century, was destroyed during the Northern War, and then the cathedral was rebuilt in the eighteenth century. St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk has become a cultural and religious center.
This is the place, where:
Divine services, guided tours and organ music concerts are held.
You can visit the Museum of the History of Architecture of St. Sophia Cathedral
There is a concert hall with 304 seats.
An organ has been installed, which today is unconditionally recognized as the best concert instrument in Belarus.
For an independent visit to the museum, an audio guide has been developed in Belarusian, Russian and English, as well as a guide with a plan of the cathedral and a map of Polotsk.
On Sundays, organ concerts are performed by the concert hall soloist, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Ksenia Pogorelaya.
