In 1895, the church was recognized as the cathedral of the city, emphasizing its special significance in the religious life of the community.

The St. Nicholas Church carries rich historical heritage. During the period after the October Revolution, it endured challenging times when its church treasures were confiscated, and the church itself was repeatedly closed. Despite this, during the Great Patriotic War (the Eastern War), it continued to serve as a faithful sanctuary for parishioners, but after the war, the church was again closed.

The church's distinctive features include its exquisite 18th–19th-century icons preserved inside and a powerful 7-pood bell (approximately 252.77 pounds), cast for the 185th anniversary of the church through the generosity and dedication of its parishioners. Today, the Church of St. Nicholas continues to attract tourists with its unique architecture and historical significance, remaining an important part of Vyerkhnyadzvinsk's cultural heritage.
