The mention of the wooden cathedral, likely the first Orthodox church in the Principality of Polotsk, appears in chronicles as early as 1001. However, the original church was not preserved to this day, just like the status of the city of Drutsk, which now represents a small agro-town in Talachyn district.
To commemorate the millennium of the city's founding, a decision was made to reconstruct this historical church, although its original appearance remains largely unknown. The new wooden church reflects the retrospective Russian style in architecture.
