Theatre Background

The theatre was founded on 21 November 1926 on the basis of the drama studio at the Moscow Art Theatre named after Maxim Gorky. Such artists as S. Stanyuta, R. Koshelnikova, P. Molchanov, T. Sergeichik and others graduated this drama studio during its existence period.

The theatre established the tradition of cooperating with Belarusian cultural figures back in the 1920s and 1930s. Thus, K. Cherny, Ya. Kupala, Ya. Kolas and others collaborated with the theatre. One of the interesting facts is that the theatre’s repertoire has included the play Nesterka since 1941, which speaks of its popularity even among modern audiences. Therefore, if you have never seen this performance, then it's high time to find out what is its peculiarity.

Celebration of the 95th Anniversary of the National Academic Drama Theatre Named After Yakub Kolas 

In honour of its anniversary, the theatre will present the premiere of the tragicomedy Tsil based on the play by G. Gorin. Almost the entire troupe of the theatre is involved in the production, so the performance promises to be a large-scale event.

Theatre Background

The play Tsil is a story about the medieval jester Thyl Ulenspiegel. His parents were told that their child would be a hero in Flanders. Viewers will see how Thyl transforms from a merry fellow into a symbol of courage and a fighter for truth. The main character is sarcastic and honest, so his arrowy tongue will touch feelings of many people. In this tragicomedy, Thyl fights with lies, he thinks philosophically and does everything to make good win.

In addition, two more premieres will take place in December: the solo performance Korotkevich's Tales by Z. Gurbo and the performance When the Rooster Sings based on the play by A. Zamkovsky. The theatre also promised other novelties, which may be announced to the public later.

The theatre also puts on performances for children: for example, during the pre-New Year period, starting from 18 December, the play The Magic Boy will be staged. This performance is about a married couple who wanted a child. To do this, they come to the whisperer Avdotya, but she has other plans for the magic boy Maksimka.
