The Dendrological Garden of the Glubokoe Forestry has been one of the natural sanctuaries of republican significance since 1991.

The Garden was founded in the early 60s of the twentieth century to study valuable decorative tree species, and today it is not only a natural sanctuary but also the most popular place for walking and recreation among the local population and tourists.

The idea of the Garden creation belonged to the forest engineer and great enthusiast Viktor Antonovich Lomako, who had already worked in the forestry for 25 years by then since 1946. According to Lomako, the main idea of creating an arboretum, as a kind of laboratory, was the opportunity to check whether it would be possible to grow technically valuable and ornamental trees and shrubs from other continents in the north of Belarus for their introduction into forestry and landscaping.

The design and laying of the Dendrological Garden were carried out in several steps. At first, a site with a convenient access way was searched for. A small area near the village of Orekhovno was chosen.

As early as in the spring of 1963, the forestry workers began reverently the first planned planting of trees and shrubs. 134 species of plants were planted at that time, which, even today, form the most valuable fund of the dendrological collection.

In the territory of 8.2 hectares, a variety of landscape areas were laid out: plains, hills, swampy lowlands, and lawns. Over a thousand trees and shrubs of 504 species have been planted here. Numerous plants were brought from different countries and continents: from North America, the countries of the Far East, China, and Japan, as well as from the southern regions of Europe. Many years of hard work have proved that samples of trees from different climatic zones can grow in Belarus. The collection of the Dendrological Garden has already been tested by frosts and droughts. Not all foreign plants were able to withstand such conditions, but those that survived received a permanent residence in the Glubokoye settlement.

Today, the Dendrological Garden is ready to welcome visitors all year round and is graceful in showing them its treasures. Many who have visited this delightful place in spring come back here in summer, come in autumn and winter. Each season of the year transforms this magical area in a different way. Every flower, every blade of grass here is filled with a simple and great harmony of nature. It is noteworthy that there are no paved or concrete paths in the Garden. You are immersed in the pristine nature and walk along well-trodden paths among mountain ash, arborvitae, spruce, chestnut, and maple alleys. This natural architecture is majestically enveloped with shrubs clipped into bizarre forms with care and love. And the crowns of majestic multi-meter trees carefully shelter visitors to the Garden from the heat and heavy rain.

Artificial reservoirs, enlivening the landscape in a unique way, are located in the lowland areas of the Dendrological Garden. A small alpine hill with a cozy little summer house adds a special charm to the landscape.

This place is rightfully a must for tourist routes and programs; botanists and environmentalists organize their congresses here. Also, the Dendrological Garden has become a favorite place for memorable photographs of newlyweds.

It is forbidden to have picnics on the territory of the arboretum itself, but outside, literally a few steps away, the Glubokoe forestry has arranged numerous summer houses for relaxing and barbecuing. The purest air and these beautiful and well-kept places will not allow even the most experienced traveler to stay indifferent!
