History of Creation

In 2016, the museum underwent reconstruction. The exhibitions were enhanced with modern multimedia elements: interactive panels, touchscreens, sound and visual effects. Thanks to these innovations, the museum gained a new dimension and became one of the most engaging educational sites in the region.

The Exhibition: Immersion into the World of Nature

The museum’s exhibition spans two levels and includes hundreds of specimens collected over the years. It features the wildlife of the Pripyatsky National Park, as well as geological samples that are millions of years old.

The first thing visitors encounter is a stand with stones and fossilized shells found during drilling operations. These exhibits remind us that some 450 million years ago, an ancient sea once covered what is now Polesia.

A particular pride of the museum is its collection of birds. Polesia is an important stopover for migratory species, while some rare birds nest here permanently. Among the exhibits is a taxidermy specimen of the Terek sandpiper (Xenus cinereus), a small bird listed in the Red Book of Belarus, for which a unique monument was erected in the center of Turov.

Rare and Remarkable Inhabitants

The museum introduces visitors not only to birds but also to animals that have long inhabited these lands. Exhibits tell about the lives of beavers – skilled dam builders – as well as moose, wild boars, and otters. Special attention is given to birds of prey such as eagle owls and white-tailed eagles, which can hunt large animals and impress with their wingspans.

Some exhibits have dramatic stories. For instance, there is a taxidermy mount of a female bear that perished in 1979 within the national park. Once common in Polesia, bears disappeared due to ecological changes in the environment. The exhibit serves as a reminder of how fragile natural ecosystems are and how important it is to maintain balance.

Interactive Opportunities

After its reconstruction, the museum became especially attractive to children and school groups. Modern technologies allow visitors not just to observe exhibits but also to learn about them through multimedia presentations, audio guides, and interactive displays.

This format helps explain the interconnection of living organisms and the ecological role of each species, cultivates ecological awareness, and makes excursions more engaging.
