Majestic temples, striking in their architecture and rich history, will not leave anyone indifferent. Many of them are a historical and cultural value of the Republic of Belarus.
Kobrin
The cathedral was built in the mid-19th century on the site of a mass grave of Russian soldiers who died in the war with Napoleon. The domes of the cathedral are decorated with gilded crosses created in St. Petersburg.
Brest
The church was erected by the efforts of sailors who fought in the Russian-Japanese War, their relatives, and also with the participation of Nicholas II and the reformer Stolypin at the beginning of the last century. The shrine was built on the site of a burnt-down wooden church.
Luninets
The construction of the church took almost 10 years and was completed in 1921. It amazes with a large number of icons - from priceless centuries-old ones to modern ones.
Sar'ya village, Verkhnedvinsk district
The red brick temple was originally built as a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church, and in 1865 it was re-consecrated as an Orthodox church. During the Soviet era, the church was used as a warehouse and even as a nightclub.
Postavy
The architecture of the cathedral resembles ancient Russian temples. Snow-white walls with five domes were erected in 1884. The temple is a historical and cultural value of Belarus.
Rossony settlement
The brick and rubble church was built on the site of a wooden one in 1879. During World War II, the building was looted and almost destroyed. More than thirty years ago, the church was restored and services were resumed.
Mozyr
The cathedral is the main Orthodox church of Turov diocese. At first it was a Roman Catholic church built in the middle of the 18th century. Almost a hundred years later it was transferred to the Orthodox Church and consecrated in honor of the Holy Archangel Michael. Another century later it became a secret police prison. Currently, the cathedral houses the only church-museum of political repressions in the Republic.
Zhlobin
The temple was built at the end of the 19th century and was completely destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. It was rebuilt at the end of the last century. There church operates an icon painting school.
Turov
The construction of the complex was completed a little over 10 years ago. In the 12th century, there was a stone cathedral on this site, which was destroyed to the foundations by an earthquake. The cathedral is complemented by a chapel and a two-tiered bell tower.
Novogrudok
The Roman Catholic church was built by Franciscans in 1780, but half a century later it was converted to Orthodox. In the middle of the 19th century, after a severe fire, the style of the church was changed to pseudo-Byzantine.
Grodno
The temple was erected at the beginning of the last century in memory of the soldiers who died during the Russian-Japanese War. And in 1921, the church received the status of a cathedral. The temple houses an icon of Our Lady of Kazan, which is associated with an incredible legend, and a copy of the Euphrosyne Cross with particles of holy relics.
at. Turets, Korelichi district
The temple, built in the 1880s, is one of those "muravyovkas" that were erected by order of Governor-General Muravyov, but it has a more complex architecture. During Soviet times, the Protection Church remained active.
Maryina Gorka
The Church of St. Alexander Nevsky was built in 2008 thanks to the miraculous icon of the Holy Mother of God "Maryina Gorka" that was found. Previously, it was kept in the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity - since the destruction of the Church of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God in Maryina Gorka.
Borisov
Construction began in 1871. The magnificent temple with a large number of decorative elements is complemented by a bell gate. In the last century, for 60 long years, the temple became a grain storage facility. The cathedral has undergone several restorations and is of historical value.
Molodechno
Construction of the white-stone cathedral with blue and gold domes began in 2004 and lasted 18 years. All work was done manually, even without a tower crane.
Mogilev
The 11-year construction of the temple was completed in 1914. Three saints – Basil the Great, Gregory Bogoslav and John Chrysostom – are the patrons of the cathedral. The temple, repeatedly visited by Emperor Nicholas II, was a factory club and even a place for discos in Soviet times. In 1989, the cathedral was consecrated once again and the doors of the temple were opened to all Orthodox believers.
Mstislavl
The temple was built in the second half of the 19th century on the site of the oldest church, Afanasyevskaya. A distinctive feature of the cathedral is the location of the altar - not eastern, but southwestern, which is not typical of Orthodox churches.
Bobruisk
The cathedral was built at the end of the 19th century. But in 1930, the crosses and the giant copper bell were melted down, and the temple was turned into a swimming pool, where 19th-century frescoes were preserved under the tiles and plaster. After the reconstruction, which was completed in 2007, the cathedral is the largest center of the Bobruisk-Bykhov Orthodox Diocese in the region.
Cyril and Methodius str., 3
The Baroque temple was built in the second half of the 17th century. Two centuries later, it was transformed from a Catholic convent into an Orthodox monastery. After a break in church services, in the middle of the 20th century, the cathedral again became an active Orthodox sanctuary. The miraculous icon, which floated against the current and was painted by the Apostle Luke, is kept here.
Kozlov str., 11
The church of the late 19th century was built in honor of the victory in the Russian-Turkish War. During the Great Patriotic War, a bomb that fell in the church in front of the icon of St. Nicholas simply did not explode. After restoration, new shrines appeared in the church.
Vsekhsvyatskaya str., 2
The church, construction of which began in 2006, is the only memorial temple in the capital. The architectural structure is a tent with a cross on the upper dome. Part of the temple complex are the House of Mercy and the Trinity Wooden Church.
