The local history museum is rightfully considered a cultural and historical center for educating tourists and residents of Gorodok district. The collection contains more than 40 thousand items put together in 5 halls. Museum exhibits tell about everyday life and traditions, local nature and significant historical events.
An exhibition has been assembled dedicated to famous writers, artists, scientists and military figures who came from these places. Among them is the poet Konstantin Verenitsyn. The author of the famous poem "Taras on Parnassus" was born in Ostrovlyany village. The poet graduated from the parish school in Gorodok, studied at Vitebsk gymnasium, and then received the qualification of an agronomist at Gory-Goretsky Agricultural Institute.
The ethnographic and folk crafts hall immerse in the rural life of past centuries, acquaint with traditional crafts. Here you will find pottery, wicker and straw items, which vividly characterize the way of life of Belarusians.
The hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic War tells about the years of military hardship and the liberation of Gorodok district. Among the numerous exhibits are photographs, documents, weapons and awards that Soviet soldiers were awarded.
The exposition of the nature department is arranged in two halls: information and diorama. The information hall introduces paleontological exhibits, a map of the natural environment, photographs, and the Red Book of Gorodok region. This hall also has three dioramas: "Oak grove. Giant oak", "Apocalypse" and "White-tailed eagle". The second hall of the nature department includes five dioramas: "Forest", "Upland bog", "Meadow. Reservoir", "Birds on the lake", "Water nut". About 100 species of insects are presented in separate display cases.
The museum will also help surprise the birthday celebrator with an original gift: here you can order a copy of the local newspaper published on birthday. For the older generation, such a newspaper will be "Pramen komunizma" - an artifact of their youth, and for those born after 1991 - "Garadotski vesnik". The museum's funds contain issues of the district newspaper, starting from 1969.
