In the 19th century, the majority of Bobruisk, about 70 percent, was Jewish. The city had 42 synagogues, for which it was nicknamed the city of 40 synagogues. By the way, the residents spoke Yiddish and could not do without jokes.

Currently, there is only one Jewish temple in Bobruisk. The synagogue building is located in the historical center of the city next to other attractions included in excursions and walking tours. The history of the building is difficult: at first, the synagogue belonged to Jews, but in the 1930s, it was closed, organizing a military warehouse there, and then a studio. And only in 2002 was it returned to the Jewish community.

Since its revival, the synagogue has been visited by over 100,000 people from Europe, near and far abroad. One of the reasons: the prayer hall houses a very rare sacred Jewish book – the Torah – and an exquisite ark brought for it from Ukraine.

The Jewish tenement was put in order by the new rabbi Shaul Hababo, who arrived in Bobruisk with his family from Israel. Restoration work is still ongoing, but the temple is already open to believers. In addition to the prayer hall, the synagogue has a charity canteen and a children's room. The rabbi plans to open a museum of Jewish culture and traditions.
